This is one of my favorite films of all time. One reason I enjoy it is the cast: Jack Hawkins, Joan Collins (a beauty who still looks pretty much the same as when she appeared in LotP), the great James Robertson Justice and Dewey Martin. Another reason I like the film is that its topic (Egypt and the Pharaohs) is rarely covered in films. The sound track is wonderful but why didn't they use stereo sound? Howard Hawks should not have to defend his work here. He did a very admirable job. To me, LotP is a classic and I'm not alone in that. Why do critics think they have to criticize? Why not use commentary for being objective and use praise when it's deserved, even alongside negative comments.

You can also order/buy the DVD online at Amazon - and the double-CD soundtrack by Dimitri Tiomkin, too.

This was such a beautiful film, loved every minute of it, it
was one of the first to hit our small commumity in cinemascope,
I have been trying to get a copy on dvd but haven't been able to
find it yet. Yes, the story is sort of slow but the characters seem
to develop so wonderfully and Jack Hawkins...perfect cast in this
one..but then, I have loved every film Mr. Hawkins was in.
