Rambo also contributed a chapter to this anthology.

A post about Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a bit of an odd fit for 1More Film Blog for two reasons. First, it’s a television show. Second, I don’t routinely watch it.

On the other hand, it’s relevant for several reasons. Buffy is the signature product of auteur Joss Whedon whose Serenity is a feature film based on another television program. Secondly, Buffy is one of the few television programs that has received sustained, quality academic scrutiny, and as such is influential on the way we think about mass media entertainment.

The main reason I’m posting about the show, however, is that noted scholar and Buffy enthusiast Elizabeth Rambo has begun a blog project rewatching the show and blogging individual episodes at The Painful Nowning Process. Dr. Rambo is one of the co-editors of Buffy Goes Dark, and she brings a broad foundation of literary knowledge and cultural insight into her writing. If you’ve ever wanted to try out the show or think more deeply about quality television, consider this a master class with an individual tutor and–here’s the best part–no tuition!
