Oyelowo Follows Up “Selma” with Faith-Themed “Captive”

David Oyelowo impressed critics and audiences alike with his turn as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in last year’s Academy Award nominated biopic, Selma. Now he is taking on another role based on a real person; this one is very different. Oyelowo stars opposite Kate Mara in Captive, based on an incident in which a fugitive takes captive a recovering meth addict. The story takes a surprising turn when Ashley Smith begins reading from Rick Warren’s The Purpose Driven Life.

The film is based on Smith’s resulting book documenting her experience, Unlikely Angel. Captive opens in September, 2015. The trailer is below:
